Hudson Wine Festival -- Hudson, OH

Last night Dave and I traveled to Hudson to attend the 8th Annual Hudson Wine Festival. Tickets can be purchased online for $22.00 (save $2.00 on each ticket with the code ROEB) or for $27.00 at the event.  Each ticket will get you a complimentary Hudson Wine Festival tasting glass as well as tickets for ten tastings.

The event also has $10.00 designated driver tickets (you'll receive two tickets to be redeemed for pop or water) and guests under 21 get in free with a guest who pays for admission.Proceeds from the Hudson Wine Festival go to organizations dedicated to increasing "awareness and support for animal welfare and military support organizations in Northeast Ohio."

The Hudson Wine Festival takes place in the First & Main shopping district of Hudson, just park somewhere in the area, there's plenty of street parking, and then follow the signs to the event.

Each of us purchased a ticket to the event so we had 20 tasting tickets. Most wines were one ticket for a taste, some of the premium wines and liqueurs were two tickets and cocktails were three tickets.

Tastings that we sampled:
  1. Fetzer Gewurztraminer
  2. H3 Cabernet Sauvignon
  3. Thomas Henry Zinfandel
  4. Hard Pink Lemonade
  5. Jackson Morgan Peaches & Cream Liqueur
  6. Hook & Ladder Chardonnay
  7. Debonne Vineyards Riesling
  8. Charles Charles Riesling
  9. Apothic White
  10. Liquorizh Peanut Butter Vodka
  11. Liquorizh Buckeye Cocktail
  12. Dreaming Tree Crush
  13. Tessora Limoncello
  14. Tessora Key Lime Martini
  15. Sauvignon Franc Ice Wine
  16. Gervasi Riesling
  17. Suavecito Reposado Tequila

Neither of us is particular when it comes to wine, so we were happy to try a wide variety of samples. Overall I was most happy with some of the non-wine samples the Jackson Morgan Peaches & Cream Liqueur, Liquorizh Peanut Butter Vodka and Tessora Key Lime Martini were among my favorites of the evening.

This event is sponsored by Drug Mart, so the unifying factor of all the wines is that they could be purchased at Drug Mart. That resulted in only some of the wines being local which was fine, there were several wines that we see in the grocery store often which are out of our price range, it was nice to be able to sample those without taking a gamble on an entire bottle.

There were two tasting areas, the first was near the main stage which had a rotation of bands throughout the evening.

The second had some food vendors and the premium wines and cocktails. There were places to sit at both locations, we chose a tall table to stand at while enjoying some samples.

The Tessora Key Lime Martini was one of my favorite samples of the evening. Tessora is an Ohio company and their products are available at retailers throughout Ohio.

Another product that we loved was Nectar of the Vine's wine frappes. We sampled the Berry Raspberry and it was amazing. To make, you mix one bag of their frappe mix with one bottle of wine and an equal amount of water. All you do is mix and then freeze. The mix results in a drink that is the perfect slushy like consistency. This is another Ohio company and they have a great variety of flavors available at the Wine Fest as well as on their website.

Despite the fact that it was incredibly hot, we had a wonderful time last night. It was easy to find street parking near the event and there were plenty of signs directing you where to go. Although the food options at the event were sparse, there are plenty of restaurants on First & Main where you could stop for lunch or dinner.

My rating of the Hudson Wine Festival:
